Oak Park Homelessness Coalition: Spring Quarterly Meeting Recap

The Oak Park Homelessness Coalition gathered on Thursday, April 16 for its spring quarterly meeting, bringing together community partners to share updates, reflect on progress, and strengthen coordination across services supporting residents experiencing housing instability and food insecurity.

Housing Forward opened with updates on the Anderson Emergency Shelter, the Bridge Center, and Keystone Apartments, along with highlights from their Q1 2026 Impact Dashboard. So far this year, the shelter has served 80 individuals across 72 households, including nine families with minors, with 24 individuals connected to Oak Park. Street outreach efforts have reached 30 individuals across 23 households. The data also provided insight into demographics, exit outcomes, and trends over time, helping partners better understand evolving community needs. See here for the full presentation.

Beyond Hunger shared an overview of its programs, including food pantry services, home delivery, nutrition education, and benefits assistance. The organization also reported strong progress on its $3.7 million capital campaign, Building for the Future: Moving Beyond Hunger, which has reached 91 percent of its goal. This expansion will increase access to food and wraparound services for more families. The team also noted concerns about potential federal changes to SNAP and Medicaid and their impact on local residents. See here for the slides.

Oak Park Township General Assistance introduced the Flexible Rental Assistance Program, or FRAP, developed in partnership with the Village of Oak Park. The program supports residents with rent, utilities, and emergency needs, and can be combined with other assistance to promote longer-term housing stability. The coalition also reviewed its 2026 priorities, with a focus on strengthening visibility, deepening community engagement, and increasing participation in trainings and events. Updates from work groups and member agencies highlighted the breadth of ongoing efforts and the importance of continued collaboration across the network.

The meeting also featured a new community safety initiative currently in development: a Narcan and sharps disposal resource guide that will map access points throughout Oak Park. This tool will support harm reduction efforts and help connect residents to critical resources. More details will be shared as it is finalized.

The next quarterly meeting will be held on Thursday, July 16, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Village Hall. The coalition looks forward to continuing this important work together.
